The entire village, and surrounding lush volcanic farmland rolling down to the ocean, have been protected by the NationalTrust. Beautiful Mt Dromedary or "Gulaga - the Mother Mountain", towers up 800 metres behind the village, and is widely known for its pristine rain forests and aboriginal sacred sites.
