South Coast Leisure Times : Autumn 2014
Berry www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au South Coast 23 The tantalising flavours of Savannah Café will definitely sooth your beastly hunger. Savannah’s menu features many traditional dishes from the Cape Malay quarter to the township of Soweto in Johannesburg and add a few Mediterranean flavours as well. It would be a shame not to show off Ersen’s (the Turkish chef) great cheese making skills such as Labneh which features on their African Plains Bruschetta. Besides stocking crunchies, rusks and koeksisters – Savannah sell biltong and droëwors as well! hungry as a lion? ...visit savannah Drawing Room Rocks, Berry. Photo: Brad Chilby join the clans for a celtic day out Take the whole family and plan for a great day out at the annual Berry Celtic festival on May 26, at the Berry Showgrounds. Starting with a street parade, in Queen Street, at 9.30am, nine pipe bands will combine with the Clans and vintage cars and proceed to the Showground, for the official opening. The Berry showground is on the southern side of the highway and is easily found. A a non-stop program will follow! Each pipe band will perform interspersed with Irish and Scottish singing and dancing. A highlight of the day will be the Highland Warrior s, with their feats of strength, lifting the huge stones and tossing the caber (pictured). As many clans will be in attendance, anyone wishing to get information regarding their ancestral Celtic background, then this is the place to do it. Also enjoy colourful market stalls, selling food, coffee, icecream and Celtic merchandise. The Berry Celtic festival is unique to the South Coast but fits in well with the history of the areat, as many Irish, Scottish,Welsh and Cornish were earlysettlers .
